Do something today!
My Fit Tip for today: do something exercise related everyday. Yep, everyday. Guess what? You do have time. If you have time to watch tv, you have time to get a workout in. Get your butt up off the couch and do some pushups, planks, or squats. I keep hand weights in the corner of the living room and use them when the kids aren’t around. I do curls, overhead presses, tricep kickbacks, stationary lunges, squats, really whatever I can squeeze in that hasn’t been worked out in a couple of days. I did have to stop using them around the kids as they like to stand close to Mom and I’m so afraid I’ll whack them on the head with a 20 pound dumbbell that I don’t do much.
When the kids are around I do whatever I can without weights: pushups, planks, lunges, squats, or I hold yoga moves for extended periods of time to build endurance. Sometimes I’ll just stretch, my body could always use more stretching.
My favorite source for explaining exercises is youtube. You can also just type in “exercise” and it will show you numerous workouts. Some are a bit bizarre, and I wouldn’t recommend working out to them (poodle exercise for example) but if you search for “plank” you’ll get many great plank variations.
My workout today will be another video. I’m doing one section of Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred, which I really enjoy. My husband is working tons lately (12 hour shifts), and my youngest freaks out in the daycare at my gym, so for now I’m working out at home when he works. I also took a walk around the neighborhood while my oldest rode her bike. I really don’t count that as a workout though, as it was really more like a stroll. So, I’ll workout with good old Jillian, do some extra ab work (planks), and some yoga.
Have eaten well today. Not perfect, but it’s Saturday and I am not so strict on the weekends. Will get in my gallon of water early. Will probably take my kids for a walk around the neighborhood tonight as well. It’s so beautiful here today, I want to make sure we get out and enjoy it while we can. Have a great workout!
